Description

Banana flour is a powder, which is traditionally made of green/raw bananas. It is very popular as a gluten free replacement to wheat flours or as a source of resistant starch. Some recent nutritional research as well as certain dieting trends such as paleo and primal diets have been promoting resistant starch.

Banana flour, due to the use of green bananas, has a very mild banana flavour when it is raw. When cooked, it has an earthy non-banana flavour. It also has a texture reminiscent of lighter wheat flours and requires about 25% less volume. That’s why it makes a good replacement for white and white whole wheat flour.

This has led to rising popularity among those suffering from celiac disease and gluten free dieters.

The human digestive tract does not digest resistant starch. Starch is the main compound of carbohydrates. It has many health benefits. Improved insulin sensitivity, lower blood sugar levels, reduced appetite are only a few.

It is very beneficial for gut health because it feeds the friendly bacteria in our gut. Furthermore, it lowers the pH value. That can lead to lead to inflammation and increase the risk of colorectal cancer.
