Organic Food Delivery in Delhi-NCR: What to Look For and Where to Find It

You search for organic food delivery in Delhi-NCR online and dozens of options flood your screen. Several brands use the exact same buzzwords like pure, natural and farm fresh, the packaging looks identical and prices are all over the place. One app sells organic daal for ₹150, while an exclusive website sells it for ₹400. You are left staring at the screen wondering which one to trust and how.

You are rightly being skeptical. Should displaying an organic certificate be good enough or naturally grown or pesticide free titles may also suffice.

If you are paying extra money to protect your family from toxins, you deserve to know what you are buying. The following pointers may guide you in finding out what genuine organic food delivery should look like.

Why Delhi-NCR is the hotspot of Organic/ Natural Food

Delhi has a unique and high-stakes problem. It is one of the most polluted urban areas in the world. Between the winter smog and the heavy metal contamination in the Yamuna River, the medical motivation to eat clean is stronger here than almost anywhere else.

High demand always attracts people looking to cut corners.

The market for organic vegetables in Delhi grew too fast for quality controls to keep up. Walk into any premium supermarket and you will find an organic food section. Open any quick delivery app and you can filter for organic groceries.

Organic Food

Who they are, what has been their journey, how rooted are they in their work, background of the founders, their engagement with farmers. This is very important to understand the genuinity of the company and it will automatically reflect in their products. Organic Food is not only a business as usual that has profits at the core. Here intention, integrity and grounding are at the core and then comes the revenue figures.

2. What processes are they following to establish the evidence of being organic/ natural

Food Brands can either be certified organic – which means their entire processes from produce to packaging to storage, transportation, warehouse are all certified organic. Certification can be taken from central or state government agencies or private agencies.

Food brands can keep certified organic packaged products. This means that the produce is coming from certified organic farmers and fields and is being processed in a certified organic processing unit. But remember, even though the farmer and her/ his field is certified, each and every crop has to be freshly certified each time it grows. Which means certification is a never ending process. Now this is a tricky part. It is important for a brand to ensure that all the processes are being followed before they claim to be certified organic.

Any certified organic product must mention its certification number on the packaging. The brand must also put relevant information on its website for anyone to see.

Then there are products that are labelled ‘Organically Grown’ or ‘Naturally Grown’ (interchangeably). This usually happens when the farmer growing such products are using only natural or bio inputs in farming. Either they do not prefer to go for certification looking at the complications in the paper work and obligations thereafter or they are under a conversion process which is of three years before they get the organic certificate.

Ask Relevant Questions

In both cases it is important to ask relevant questions to the company representative. Find out if they know about the origin of the produce, do they keep any record of farmer groups or individual farmers; what kind of association does the company have with them; what are the checks and balances the company has on quality assurance; what kind of supply chain mechanism do they follow. These answers and the confidence behind them are far more important than any paper claims and tags.

3. Lab Tests for product purity and checking pesticide and other chemicals banned in organic farming.

Although it is not mandatory to test produce for pesticides and other chemicals banned in organic farming, if the brand is following this practice and puts the lab reports on their website, it adds to their trust factor. Such tests usually cover pesticides, growth hormones and impurities.

Claiming about thousands of followers and AI generated content is not sufficient to establish a brand’s authenticity. One must look for the originality and genuinity of the social media content that such food brands are posting. Does it show the depth of their work, their engagement with farmers, their systems in the field and their understanding of the subject? If the content on their social media handles are striking a chord with you, try some of their products before becoming loyal customers.

5. Does the price actually make sense?

Genuine organic farming costs more than conventional farming. Farmers do not use synthetic fertilizers to artificially boost yields. They do not use chemical weedicides and pesticides to prevent crop loss which means more manual labour that adds a huge sum of money to the cost and naturally lower yields that reduce the earnings.

If a brand is offering organic food home delivery in Noida at the exact same price as the regular chemically sprayed vegetables available at your local street cart, something is not right about it. Real food costs real money. However, it should not be extortionate. Brands that bypass middlemen offer sustainable prices while paying the farmer honestly.

6. What do the Google and social media reviews actually say about the products?

Do not just look at the star rating. Look at the patterns. A brand with a solid rating across hundreds of reviews spanning several years is highly reliable. Look for specific feedback. Are customers talking about the natural taste of the food? Do they mention that the vegetables spoil naturally? Taste is often the most honest reviewer.

And last but not the least – You Yourself are the real test.

If the brand ticks most of the above mentioned check boxes, then do try some of their products. Taste is the best judge. If you are able to find genuine taste in veggies or fruits, they cook well and you feel good about what you ate then try for a few more times till it becomes your habit and choice.
